The Cheetah Girls LIVE

The Cheetah Girls LIVE

If you’ve got kids, you already know The Cheetah Girls first hit success with the Disney Channel movie The Cheetah Girls. The concert features three of the four singers – Adrienne Bailon, Kiely Williams, and Sabrina Bryan, who also did the soundtrack for the movie. Raven-Symoné of “That’s So Raven” also starred in the movie as a Cheetah Girl, but does not sing or tour with the band. The original trio is incredibly talented at singing, dancing and entertaining. These young professionals put on quite a show, singing every signature song from their latest movie, The Cheetah Girls 2. My 7-year-old daughter and her girlfriend were out of their minds with excitement…they screamed with enthusiasm at the beginning of each song and then proceeded to sing and dance along. They couldn’t stay in their seats!

High School Musical: The Concert

High School Musical is another Disney phenomena, going from small screen to live stage with High School Musical: The Concert. Performing the hit songs from the movie's triple-platinum-selling soundtrack are the multi-talented young stars (in alphabetical order): Corbin Bleu ("Chad"), Monique Coleman ("Taylor"), Lucas Grabeel ("Ryan"), Vanessa Hudgens ("Gabriella") and Ashley Tisdale ("Sharpay"). They are joined by the Emmy Award-nominated singer-songwriter Drew Seeley, who co-wrote the hit "Get'cha Head in the Game" and contributed male vocals to the High School Musical and The Cheetah Girls 2 soundtracks. Zac Efron ("Troy") was filming the musical motion picture “Hairspray” and was unable to join the concert tour.

In addition to performing songs from “High School Musical,” the stars also had breakout moments during concert…Corbin Bleu, Vanessa Hudgens and Ashley Tisdale performed material from their current and/or forthcoming solo albums. This is one talented group of young people. My 7-year-old daughter and her girlfriends went wild at the start of every song…they loved the entire show.

The Wiggles LIVE

The Wiggles LIVE

Like The Beatles for babies, The Wiggles possess a captivating quality that kids go ga-ga for. These little groupies proudly sport their Wiggle paraphernalia, such as t-shirts, feather swords, Dorothy hats, and the like, while The Wiggles themselves sing on stage beside large blow-up dolls of the beloved Australian foursome (of course Jeff’s is sleeping). The Wiggles are joined by their favorite friends: Captain Feather Sword, Wags The Dog, Dorothy The Dinosaur, Henry The Octopus, and The Wiggles Dancers. Both of my kids were on their feet dancing throughout the show and even my little one was singing the words. You’ve just got to catch The Wiggles when they tour through your town.

From the small screen to the live stage, The Doodlebops are preschoolers’ favorite rock band, starring three colorful, cartoon-like characters: Deedee, Rooney and Moe Doodle. Just like on TV, The Doodlebops’ live performance is educational through the power of music and song. Kids are invited to join the band as they hang out and practice their songs and dance routines in their cool rehearsal hall. And when they aren’t rehearsing, The Doodlebops are zooming around in their tour bus with Bus Driver Bob. As always, the trio have an adventure and each of them approach the problem in their own unique way…Deedee acts as the oldest and the leader, she always drives their plan forward, Moe inadvertently upsets the plan, and Rooney thinks of a way to solve the problem. This positive and upbeat show had the kids dancing in their seats. The Doodlebops are the new favorite in our house. The Doodlebops is Cookie Jar Entertainment's latest TV sensation and has quickly become one of the most popular shows on Disney Channel's Playhouse Disney preschool block.

BED New York is the brainchild of owner Oliver Hoyos, who has blended a seductive Miami sophistication with modern New York City style. Not only does BED stand for Beverage / Entertainment / Dining, but it’s also self-descriptive of the unique way in which one is seated at this establishment, which is, as you might have guessed, in a bed. There are a handful of tables and chairs for the less adventurous, but why sit when you can recline while you dine.

Located in a bi-level penthouse, BED New York is the first downtown restaurant to combine two dining floors with a 360-degree rooftop view of the sweeping midtown New York skyline. Lest you get the idea BED is all a dog and pony show, you can actually enjoy fun cocktails and excellent food…Chef Vitor’s creations are a seductive blend of French and American contemporary cuisine that are creative and delicious. Don’t get me wrong, the scene is to be seen and BED does have fun with its name by creating featured cocktails with sexy names, such as Heavy Petting, a blend of Vodka, Chardonnay, fresh lemon juice and muddled red grapes.

Blue's Clues Live

Blue’s Clues Live
www.nickjr.com

Nickelodeon’s Blue’s Clues Live tour is a crowd pleaser with the preschool set. Blue hits the stage with all her friends – Tickety Tock, Slippery Soap, Mr. Salt, Mrs. Pepper, Baby Cinnamon, Periwinkle, Magenta, and Joe – to search for clues. And audience participation is encouraged so don’t worry about keeping your kids quiet.

If you’re wondering if your child is too old or too young to attend Blue’s Clues Live, age is not a factor. If your kids love watching Blue’s Clues on TV at home, they’ll love seeing Blue and her friends live in the theatre. My daughter, two at the time, stood on her seat, yelled “Hi Blue!” to the stage, waved her Blue’s Clues flashlight in the air every time she saw a clue, and then scribble it in her handy dandy notebook. By the end of the show, my face hurt from smiling and beaming with pride from watching my daughter thoroughly enjoy herself.

Cirque du Soleil - Corteo

Cirque du Soleil
www.cirquedusoleil.com

Cirque du Soleil is much more than a circus, it’s the culmination of elaborate costumes, creative sets, poignant music, an intriguing story, and, most of all, an incredibly talented troop of acrobats. Corteo, Cirque du Soleil’s newest touring show, is no exception, providing a theatrical world of fun, comedy and spontaneity. Corteo, which means “cortege” in Italian, is a joyous procession, a festive parade imagined by a clown. In the show, the clown pictures his own funeral taking place in a carnival-like atmosphere, watched over by quietly caring angels. Juxtaposing the large with the small and the ridiculous with the tragic; the show highlights the strength and fagility of the clown. Like all of Cirque du Soleil’s performances, Corteo is a pleasure to behold. Catch it when it tours through a town near you or get tickets to one of the resident shows, listed below.

Touring shows: Alegría, Corteo, Dralion, Quidam, Saltimbanco, Varekai
Resident shows: LOVE, KÀ, Mystère, La Nouba, "O", ZUMANITY
Live Music Concert: DELIRIUM

Disney On Ice

Disney On Ice

Disney’s done it again with Disney On Ice presents Princess Classics. Appearing together for the first time in Disney history, this show takes children into the magical worlds of their favorite Disney princesses - Cinderella, Jasmine, Ariel, Belle, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty and Mulan - each telling a tale of triumph against evil using the strength of heart, humor and hope.

Since my daughter is in love with the Disney princesses, this show was the jackpot for her. For me, it was a walk down memory lane…providing something special and touching for me as I watched my daughter marvel at the same stories that captured my heart as a young girl.

Creative sets, dazzling costumes and talented skaters make this well-produced show a pleasure to watch. Further adding to the experience is the audio…the music and voices used sound exactly like those from the movies, so they were already familiar to my daughter, which I think helped to make the show more enjoyable.

Other Disney On Ice performances include Nemo, Jungle Book, Tarzan, Lion King, Monsters Inc, and The Incredibles.

Disney World's Magic Kingdom & MGM Studios

Walt Disney World
Orlando, FL

http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wdw/index

You are never too old or too young to appreciate the magic of Walt Disney World, even the youngest traveler can enjoy this special place…at 10 months, our little one was the biggest fan. With tot-friendly rides and attractions and new adult rides and attractions, Disney continues to be a great vacation spot.

For younger children, like ours, we kept their first trip to Disney small and visited only The Magic Kingdom and MGM Studios, both of which feature rides and attractions that our kids were already familiar with, such as Bear In The Big Blue House, Aladdin and Winnie The Pooh. Timeless classics, like It’s A Small World, were still crowd pleasers, while new attractions, such as Mickey’s PhilharMagic, had us on the edge of our seats.

Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus

Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus
www.ringling.com

"Tempting Fate Daily," the slogan of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, is what this talented group of performers do at every performance. With death-defying feats such as a motorcyclists navigating a steel sphere as it splits apart, a beautiful woman swirling between arena skies and equine friends, and a madman performing trampoline leaps atop a high wire. There are also time-honoured classic acts, such as the Lion Tamer, tight-rope walker and lots of slap-stick clowns that are the staple of this circus that we adults grew up on and look forward to seeing again.

I don't know if the circus is "The Greatest Show on Earth," but it sure is a good lot of entertaining fun for the whole family. Every kid should see the famous three-ring circus that set the precedence for all others.

Sesame Street Live

Sesame Street Live
www.sesamestreetlive.com

Sesame Street Live brings this children’s classic program to life. With singing, dancing and learning, this show gets kids on their feet.

We caught the touring performance of Elmo’s Coloring Book, where a rainbow of familiar friends teach children about the importance of colors and how they evoke different emotions. Elmo and friends join Professor Art and his helpers, the Palettes, as they travel into their drawings. The colors begin to vanish as the characters perform an array of musical numbers. Along the way, they learn the importance of sharing, diversity and acceptance of others...even those with no color at all.
